Originally used by Buddhist monks in the 14th century to help aid in the healing of soldiers. The technique is called Luk Pra Kob and translates as “herbal pressing sphere.” It is then steam-heated which draws the essential oils and aromatics out of the herb mixture. The treatment is kneaded or rubbed onto the skin or used as a warm compress during the massage. This aids to help increase circulation reduce pain and helps soothe and detoxify the skin. Like most touch-based healing modalities, Herbal ball massage benefits the mind and the body by providing relaxation and stress relief.

I have made these herbal pods/balls to help promote Self-Care and Self-Love and help people Re-Connect with Themselves and with thier loved ones. To help people to de-stress, as it is often forgotten or put aside, in the world we live in and we can lose ourselves at times.

Can be used on most parts of the body, extremely beneficial when used on the abdomen as belly rub!, sacrum, mid back t12-L2, sternum and ribcage and back of the neck C1-C3 and forehead. Instructions At spas and wellness clinics Several balls are usually used and kept in a large steamer.

You can also use the following household items as alternatives: A covered pot with a metal strainer A rice cooker with a steamer attachment (This is what I use) A bamboo steamer over a pot A microwave safe bowl with steamer or glass of water. You can soak the balls in water for 5-10 mins to rehydrate the herbs as they are dried. Then Steam for 15min or desired temperature. They will last 3-6 uses or up to 2-3 weeks using this method, if stored correctly.

Try not to steam for too long as you will cook the rice in the herb mixture. The rice is added to the blend to help retain the heat for longer. Or if you want the herbal ball to last longer than above, you can steam the herbal pod/ball without soaking. After that, you can just re-steam the herbal pod/ball before use. It can also be microwaved with a glass of water for 3 to 5 minutes. Do this for 1 min then at 30 second intervals following. as with prolonged periods in microwave it can catch on fire as some of the herbs can combust when dry heat is applied. I saw this happen when I was training 😅🤣

If you use any of the alternative listed above to heat the herbal compress ball, make sure the pot/bowl you will use is deep enough to fill with at least 3cm of water and the lid will cover the herbal balls/pods without submerging them in water.

When the pods/balls are removed from steamer they are very hot!! Do not use the herbal compress ball immediately after steaming.

Let it sit for a bit and test on the anterior aspect of your forearm to check if the temperature is bearable. Then use the herbal massage pods/balls to however you desire! To store after use it is best put in airtight bag or jar or container and place in the fridge or air out in well ventilated area to re dry the herbs so they don’t go moldy.

When you discard the massage pods/balls cut the rope or untwine, empty contents outside and return to the earth. You can use the cloth as a cleaning cloth or whatever you can find a use for or you can wash and reuse and fill with your own choice of herbs.
